The Computer Science IT (CS-IT) team develops and maintains technology used at the Department of Computer Science, and supports the department personnel in using it. As a growing and essential part of the work, CS-IT develops technology focused on CS teachers’ educational needs, and supports teachers in using it in their courses.
We now offer part-time and fixed-term
Student software developer positions for educational IT needs.
Your responsibilities may include software development as well as support service for courses using the software. Our projects cover versatile needs within web software development. The scope of your tasks may focus on a single teaching-related service, such as A+, Jupyter.cs or the Grades project, or may cover multiple services as well as maintenance-related tasks, depending on your interest and skills. The tasks will be adjusted to your interests and skills. The positions are fixed-term internships for Bachelor’s and Master’s level students with active study right at Aalto or another Finnish university. The part-time workload (max ca 50%) and the fixed-term period will be agreed on together and in relation to the studies which we encourage students to proceed with. The salary is based on the department salary table and depends on your number of credits.
Needed skills and knowledge vary depending on project and may include for example Python, javascript, Node.js, Express, React and TypeScript. You should have a good knowledge of some of these. We appreciate applicants with previous knowledge on our services from a student perspective; for example, via courses with autograding, or via acting as teaching assistants in courses. The working and documentation language in the team is English, and therefore you should have good oral and written skills in English. Additionally, we appreciate the applicants to be proactive, service-oriented and collaborative team members. We are located in the CS building (Konemiehentie 2) at the Otaniemi campus.
